Sayan was one of the kindest professors I ever met. No ego, even at his level of prestige. Also just a funny and down to earth guy. Research wise, I really looked up to him as someone who could leverage unusually deep mathematical ideas appropriately in applications. It is amazing how one person could master such a breadth of skills across mathematics, statistics, computer science, and computational biology. He was a titan!
